Frequently asked questions

WHAT ARE THE PASSWORD REQUIREMENTS?

We require a minimum of 6 characters including at least 1 of the following: a capital letter; a small letter; a number; a special character, ie. !-&$, etc.

WHAT IS A CAUSE?

A cause is something you feel passionate about or want to support. This could be a for a charity or something you believe in such as a company avoiding tax for example. You can support other people's causes and also set up your own causes.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 'CAUSES' AND 'MY CAUSES'?

When you initially view the site you will only see a list of all the causes on the site (you can also use the search facility) These are causes are set up by other people. My causes shows the causes that you have donated to AND any specific causes you have set up yourself.

WHAT ARE EFFECTS?

Effects are the sum of donations and associated gift aid and sponsored 'likes'. These are collected at the total platform level, the individual user and at the individual cause level.

WHAT ARE TRANSPARENCY LEVELS FOR A CHARITY?

At StopGiver we are trying to encourage more transparency of where donations end up both in admin costs and final usage. We therefore ask charities to commit to one of 3 levels:

  1. No transparency - There is no breakdown of the donation

  2. Partial transparency - There is a general breakdown of donations.

  3. Full transparency - The charity commit to give a breakdown of where the donation was applied

WHAT IS THE HOUSE CHARITY?

As some people will use the StopGiver site to make a point, the donation aspect is secondary and so they are happy the platform supports worthwhile charities. The ethos of the platform is to promote more transparency so we aim to support charities that are at level 3 on the transparency index. The list of charities will be listed on the house charity screen and will change over time

WHAT ARE THE MAIN AREAS IN THE APP?

The App has 4 main areas which are

Causes - The overall list of causes set up on the App

My Causes - These are specific to you

Charities - Details on the charities that are on the platform

Wallet - Your wallet for funding which is topped up either ad hoc or can be a regular donation

WHAT ARE THE LEVELS IN THE APP?

The causes are grouped into 3 main areas

Causes - This is at the Platform level which means it includes all the causes that are on the platform. In addition the Effects tab shows the total donations to the platform

My Causes - This is at the User level and shows the causes that you have set up and those you have donated to or liked. The Effects at this level show your summary as a user and give a breakdown of the amounts you have been responsible for. IT SHOULD BE NOTED if you have set up a cause then your effect will INCLUDE the total of other people's contributions to that cause

The final level is at the individual cause. This details the cause itself and on the effects tab it shows the breakdown of the donations and likes etc

WHAT IS CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP?

StopGiver has created the capability for corporates and businesses to support causes. They can allocate an amount of money to support the cause by sponsoring the 'likes' for a set amount per 'like'. In this way organisations can tap into what topics they want to promote and link their brand value to what's important for their customers

WHAT ARE THE PLATFORM CHARGES?

StopGiver wishes to only collect enough money through fees to run the platform and develop the capabilities through extended functionality.

We DO NOT - LIKE MANY OTHER PLATFORMS!

Charge the charities for being on the platform - £0

Pre fill donation amounts for individuals - £0

Keep asking at every stage for additional donations £0

Which all means more money for the people who really need it

PLUS we want to increase the transparency so YOU know exactly where your money is going to

There are 2 main charges

Transaction Charges - The platform will pass through the  transaction charges from Stripe (the payment provider) StopGiver will take nothing from these

Corporate Charges - The platform aims to take all charges for running the platform from this income. This pays for staff, IT and administration costs.

The platform also has a donation form for individuals to give to help support us
